Here we are as February comes to an end and it's been a OVER a month since I've posted. I am slightly frustrated with myself that I have not kept up with the blog as frequently as I had originally hoped. My friend Joanna is also keeping a pregnancy blog and I am pretty sure she updates every week. I just have not been that good or committed. Here's a run down of everything that has happened in the last six weeks.
I am about 33.5 weeks pregnant nearing six weeks to go until our due date. The last month, I completed my proficiency exam for my Type 73 certification (consumed my weekends) and Chris and I (pretty much Chris) finished the nursery. I have been really busy with work and finding myself losing motivation to go to work daily. I think part of it is winter and the nasty weather and the other part being that I just want to be at home and looking forward to maternity leave.
As of last weekend, Chris and I finished the nursery and have been focused on decorating and plan to for the next few weeks. We have the furniture, but have had a hard time finding an arrangement in which we are both satisfied. We are learning that due to the layout of the bedroom, we really only have 1.5 working walls which is a lot for three pieces of furniture and a recliner. I was hoping to put in a bookshelf, but not sure we can make it all fit. The frustrating part, the bedroom is a very decent size!! The cats LOVE being in the nursery. I am not sure if they are just excited about a new space that is accessible to them in the home (the door has been shut to the bedroom for a long time) or if they like all the furniture that is in there. It's a new space to them and they like to be in there. :)
I saw my midwife on Thursday (2.18.10) for my appointment. It ended up being four weeks from my last appointment because my appointment that was scheduled for 2 weeks ago was canceled and I didn't want to reschedule and end up going back to back weeks without needing to. This appointment was VERY long; I think we were there for 3.5 hours. We had an ultrasound to evaluate the position of my placenta and get a solid look at our little one's heart since he was moving too much at the 20 week ultrasound. All of his organs and development look good and his heart looks good as well which is GREAT news. He is measuring approximately 4lbs, but the ultrasounds don't give a real accurate measurement of the size of the fetus. But, we also got some bad news...
My placenta is still considered "placenta previa" meaning that my placenta is still covering the opening of my cervix. The good news is that it is not covering as much of my cervix as it was at 20 weeks, but needs to move 1.8cm to move off my cervix. Therefore, if the placenta doesn't move, I will have to have a c-section. There are some serious risks with placenta previa with most severe risks being bleeding and/or hemorrhaging. If you are interested in reading more about it, you can check out this link: http://www.babycenter.com/0_placenta-previa_830.bc
The midwife seems confident that the placenta will move as it is typical to move as the uterus expands. FYI, 2cm is the size of a penny. So, I am on "pelvic rest" and we have another ultrasound scheduled for March 9 that will give us a more detailed view of the placenta and I hope it is good news. So, the last few days, I've been doing a lot of grieving and preparing for a potential c-section and it is been challenging. We have put in so much effort, planning, and preparation for a natural labor and delivery that it is upsetting to think I may have to have a c-section. So, I will definitely keep you all posted, but please keep this issue prayer.
The last week, I am feeling as though parts of my body (mostly my limbs) are beginning to swell. However, it is mostly my legs. It is hard for me to fully bend my legs and my socks are putting indentations in my legs. My wedding rings still fit, but I don't know how much longer. Hopefully, the swelling will not get any more severe, but this is symptomatic of the third trimester.
Chris and I are getting more and more excited and anxious for the delivery of our little boy. And yes, we have a name picked out, but IT'S A SECRET!! :D
